Setting.....
Two online friends plan the trip
of a lifetime.
Taking a moment to look up at the
clear blue sky, Tracey breathed in deeply. The crisp cold air
of Colorado making her whole body tingle with excitement.
Okay so maybe the tingling
sensation wasn't just a result of the joyous state she was in, but the fact
that she was still lying on the chilly ground after having made ten snow
angels in a row.
"This....is.....so......fucking......AWESOOOOME!",
she shouted then laughed out loud, "No work, no stress, no nothing but a
great place to stay with plenty of food and drink and a great friend to chat
the night away. Speaking of which.", Tracey then stated remembering one
little detail.
Sitting up, she dug into her
pocket, pulled out her cell phone then after finding the number she needed
waited, tapping her fingers against her knee until she got a response.
"Hello..."
"Diana! Please tell me you've got
some good news to share!", Tracey pleaded the moment her friend answered.
"No such luck. My connecting
flight has been canceled 'til further notice so I guess I'm stuck in New
York for who knows how long. Stupid plane!", Diana grumbled in
disappointment.
"Aw Di. I'm sorry. Especially
after all the effort we put into scheduling this trip so we'd get to
Colorado at the same time.", Tracey replied sighing heavily.
Since they both lived where the
climate was warm all year round, the two women had been determined to meet
and kick off the new year somewhere completely different, neither one of
them having seen snow in almost ten years. So when they finally agreed their
destination would be Colorado, it was just a matter of surfing the net and
making a few calls to find a wonderful travel agent who booked Tracey's
flight from Australia, Diana's from Puerto Rico and securing them a nice
little cottage with a fireplace and every modern convenience imaginable.
"So is the place as nice as the
pictures we saw over the Internet?", Diana anxiously wanted to know.
"Even better. It's beautiful!",
Tracey assured her, "And there's plenty of canned goods in the pantry
although we'll have to go into town which is about five miles away to buy
stuff like juice, bread, milk...."
"Hey never mind that. The travel
agent said the cottage included a well stocked bar. Is it true? Tell me now
so I'll know whether or not to hi-jack some of those little bottles of
booze they serve on the plane!", Diana joked although she really hoped
there'd be something, anything strong to drink once she got to the
cottage to help warm her up quickly. After ten years she'd forgotten just
how cold, cold could be!
"Yeah there's plenty to drink
here. I checked.", Tracey laughed, "Although I can't promise the rum won't
be all gone by the time you manage to get here! Get it? Why is the rum
always gone? Aw.....come on Di! That was funny!"
"You know I think you've watched
Pirates of the Caribbean one too many times!", Diana teased even though
she'd packed her copy of the pirate movie into her suitcase along with
several other Bloom DVDs unaware that Tracey had done the same thing.
"Hey it's starting to snow!!",
Tracey suddenly squealed.
"Damn....and I'm missing it!",
Diana whined sounding totally disheartened.
"Well just look on the bright
side. It's not the first time and it certainly won't be the last
time so there will still be plenty of snow by the time you get here!"
"Ha....ha. I know that but
still....... HEY! They just announced that my flight's starting to board!
Woo hoo!", Diana exclaimed happily.
"That's great! So see you in a few
hours then. I'm gonna head inside. My ass is starting to go numb from the
cold!", Tracey realized with a chuckle.
"Okay. See you soon!"
Getting up Tracey took one last
look at her snow angels then tilting her head back, caught a few flakes on
her tongue before treading towards the warmth of the cottage not knowing
just how hot her winter wonderland was going to get.
